alpaca wool
Alpaca wool is a natural fiber known for being exceptionally warm and soft to the touch. It comes from the fleece of the alpaca, an animal native to the highlands of the Andes in South America. Considered a premium wool, it is chosen for high-end pieces where mastery of the fabric is essential.
- Warmer wool: Hartford alpaca wool stands out for its ability to retain heat while remaining lightweight. This is largely due to its hollow fibers, which contain air pockets that provide superior thermal insulation.
- Low lanolin content: our alpaca wool sweaters are soft and gentle on the skin. With minimal lanolin—a fabric found in sheep’s wool—Hartford’s alpaca wool garments are less likely to cause allergic reactions.
- Textured knits: To create different textures and volumes, our workshop carefully selects other wools to blend with alpaca for men’s alpaca sweaters and women's Alpaca sweaters Unique to Hartford.
Hartford's tip: To stay warm without layering multiple pieces, Alpaca wool sweaters are all you need. Worn directly against the skin, this allows you to fully benefit from their thermoregulatory properties.

Hartford double-faced wool is a favorite choice for coats and jackets, as well as skirts and dresses, designed to be worn through the seasons with elegance and understated sophistication.
- Lightweight yet warm coats: Double-Faced Wool is made up of thin layers. The fibers used—whether alpaca, merino, or sheep’s wool—are known for their excellent thermal regulation properties.
- A signature Hartford fabric: this fabric truly comes into its own in sleek, clean-lined silhouettes, accentuated by subtle stitching and meticulous finishes.
- Precise expertise: Woven in two integrated layers, it allows for the creation of garments with a straight, controlled drape, in a fabric thick enough for outerwear, without ever compromising on lightness.
Hartford's tip: For warm, stylish pieces, Double-Faced Wool is the recommended fabric.

yak wool
Hartford yak wool is a rare natural fiber, renowned for being one of the warmest. With a unique texture, it is sourced from the animal’s undercoat during molting and is characterized by a fine, even fiber, selected for warm garments such as our Hartford women’s and men’s knitwear.
- Authentic wool: Yak wool has a more authentic look. Hartford sweaters made from yak wool feature a more natural knit, less smooth than other wools. This raw texture gives them a unique style.
- A popular fabric for winter: yak wool is definitely the fabric of choice for fall-winter collections. Highly insulating and highly absorbent, it is known as the warmest wool in the Hartford collections.
- Heavyweight sweaters & knitwear: Yak wool is naturally thicker and more durable. Garments made from this fabric are more resistant to wear and tear and retain their shape even after several years.
Hartford's Tip: Our Hartford yak wool sweaters are perfect for keeping you warm on getaways or walks in cold weather. They hold up well against friction from coats and travel bags.
