OUR CERTIFICATIONS & LABELS

Certifications and labels serve as key indicators for better understanding the origin, quality, and environmental impact of the fabrics used. They reflect Hartford’s concrete commitments to more responsible manufacturing.

Whether it’s about preserving natural resources or limiting the use of harmful substances, each label meets specific, verified criteria.

These certified initiatives support Hartford’s commitment to offering collections crafted from more sustainable fabrics, without compromising on comfort, quality, or aesthetic standards. They are part of a long-term vision in which craftsmanship, environmental responsibility, and attention to detail come together to create pieces designed to last.  Through these certifications, a more conscious approach to fashion is emerging, guided by thoughtful choices and a constant commitment to improvement.

  • OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 guarantees that Hartford clothing has been rigorously tested for harmful substances. Every component of the product—fibers, threads, dyes, buttons, and prints—is tested according to strict criteria. This label is part of a commitment to transparency and safety, ensuring that the fabrics selected by our workshops and that come into contact with the skin are safe for human health

  • The RWS (Responsible Wool Standard) label certifies that Hartford wool comes from farms that prioritize animal welfare and sustainable land management. It guarantees that the sheep are raised under responsible conditions. Beyond the animals themselves, the RWS oversees the entire supply chain, from farming to the finished product, through a rigorous traceability system. Soils, biodiversity, and natural resources are protected through respectful and sustainable farming practices.

  • ECOVERO™ Viscose is a fiber developed by Lenzing from wood sourced from sustainably managed forests. This fabric is particularly popular for creating flowing and printed pieces in Hartford’s women’s collections. Certified by the European Ecolabel, it stands out for its reduced environmental impact throughout its production cycle. Compared to traditional Viscose, ECOVERO™ generates up to 50% less CO₂ emissions and water consumption. The traceability of raw materials is ensured, allowing for the precise identification of the origin of the wood used.

  • The BCI (Better Cotton Initiative) label aims to improve cotton farming practices worldwide. It promotes more responsible farming methods, reducing the use of water, pesticides, and chemical fertilizers, while preserving soil health and ecosystems. BCI also supports cotton farmers by improving their working conditions and promoting agriculture that is more resilient to climate challenges.

  • The EUROPEAN FLAX™ label certifies linen grown in Western Europe using environmentally friendly farming practices. It is this fiber that we prefer for the production of our men's linen shirts. Linen is naturally eco-friendly: it requires little water, no GMOs, and very few chemical inputs. Since every part of the linen plant is used, it generates virtually no waste. The certification also ensures full traceability of the fiber, from cultivation through to spinning.

  • The FSC® label guarantees that fabrics, such as Viscose or Modal, come from responsibly managed forests. It ensures the preservation of biodiversity, respect for forest ecosystems, and the rights of local communities and forest workers. This certification is based on strict environmental, social, and economic criteria, ensuring the sustainable use of natural resources.

  • The GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) label is the global benchmark for organic textiles. It guarantees that at least 70% of the fibers used in certified Hartford garments are sourced from organic farming, free from GMOs and chemical pesticides. The certification covers the entire production chain: processing, dyeing, manufacturing, and working conditions.

  • The GRS (Global Recycled Standard) certifies the use of recycled fabrics while ensuring traceability, transparency, and compliance with strict environmental and social criteria. It applies to the entire production chain, from the collection of raw materials to the finished product. For our collection of Hartford Men's Swim TrunksIn particular, we use a 100% recycled polyamide fabric, also known as ultralight "parachute fabric."

OUR PRODUCTION

Local production is central to our approach, driven by a commitment to prioritizing shorter supply chains and recognized craftsmanship. We primarily source from European and Mediterranean manufacturers (over 80%), particularly in Portugal (31%) and Morocco (50%). As such, we collaborate with partner factories with whom we maintain long-standing, trusting relationships.

This geographical proximity allows for better oversight of the production stages for Hartford clothing, greater responsiveness, and constant communication with the workshops. It also helps reduce transportation, and thus the environmental footprint associated with manufacturing.

However, certain parts may be manufactured in other regions when specific expertise or technical constraints require it. Each decision is then guided by specific criteria regarding quality and environmental responsibility.

our natural fabrics

Natural materials are at the heart of our craftsmanship; we select them for their inherent quality, comfort, and ability to withstand the changing seasons. Whether it’s cashmere, cotton, wool, or linen, each fiber is carefully selected based on its feel, drape, and long-lasting durability.

At Hartford, we prioritize sustainable supply chains and responsible sourcing, ensuring the traceability and quality of the fibers we use. These choices reflect a thoughtful approach to fabric, where respect for craftsmanship and attention to detail result in pieces designed to last.
